 about my approach...

In the time I have been doing this work, it has occurred to me that therapy is a relationship...

While I have a lot of experience; (I have been in the field of mental health since 1989 in one form (inpatient/outpatient) or treatment setting or another), and a good amount of education ( two related master's degrees and a doctoral degree) and the appropriate credentials to practice ( I have a license in Marriage and Family Therapy as well as a license in Clinical Psychology). When most people are seeking a therapist, they are looking for someone they “click” with. I get it. Reaching out for help, whether it's walking in to a therapists office or over the phone or through the internet is a big step and takes courage. Everyone needs to feel when they do so that the person they have chosen to help them fits with them and their needs well. I couldn’t agree more.

So then... here's me

So... here you go. My focus is on connecting with clients and meeting them where they are versus “treating them.” My “philosophical and theoretical approach” starts with the foundation that you are the best expert on yourself and your family. My job is to help empower you, aid in your understanding of the issues at play in your life and  help you achieve the goals YOU want;  not to tell you how to be perfect and what you aught to do.

My practice is me. I do most if not all the jobs because I don’t want there to be any disconnection in the process. It’s me you talk to when you call on the phone. It’s with me that you decide  and set the schedule for our visits. It’s with me that we figure out how to navigate insurance plans and charges for the visits. It’s me that greets you at the door. I want everyone to feel like they have access to the person they are working with so they can trust and feel comfortable in the process. I also choose this because I am more and more aware of how our healthcare system has become more and more disconnected from including the client in the process. I think that leads to poor and ineffective care. That’s the reason why since early on, I decided to work for the folks that walk in the door... namely you, and not some other organization that drives the process.

So as an independent practioner, I can offer flexibility and  convenience that larger institution connected providers can't... for example

  • I typically can get someone in for an appointment within a week, two weeks at the latest
  • You get direct access to your provider, not a call center or office staff, for questions, scheduling, assistance in crises and adjustments to needs and demands of treatment
  • I am absolutely happy to collaborate with any medical office. provider or organization you might need me to talk with, directly.
  • When you call or text the phone number… yep that’s right… it’s me. Messages, questions or any communications go right to me; to keep them direct and clear and responses timely. My goal is to return any communication from a client within 24 to 48 hrs maximum. We create the treatment process as a collaboration, as partners
